Chapter 2:

Something I found interesting about this section of the book is on page 56, when Lane writes, “The sacred site speaks, then, with its own voice, even as that voice is heard by thoroughly culturally conditioned ears.” I often hear stories of people who go to famous churches, shrines, etc., and claim that they hear a voice speaking to them. While I have never experienced that myself, I’ve always thought that it was cool how some people have the capability to be so connected with their God that they can hear his voice (or another voice). I admire the people who can consume themselves so wholly in prayer and their spirituality because it’s always nice to have something to believe in. It also must be nice to have something that you’re so passionate about and that grounds you.
