attention and responsibility chapter 6  phenomenology of prayer

I found this chapter interesting because of its explanations of humans and capitalism.

It starts by explaining the point of prayer is to strip away the ego between the spirit and the self, which is not something we do in our human-level relationships. The responsibility of attention and connection is humbling.

"Prayer is where epistemology and ethics meet" and that the meaning of other (beyond the ego) is more significant than our capitalistic society, which is the problem of the modern human.

It states that we have e created man-built environments that reflect human goals only no matter how it affects the climate or others less fortunate around us.

Prayer is a way to reposition ourselves in life to make us more wise and mindful. This changes a narrative from a passive actor to one with responsibility in the world around them and even accountability.
