 The mountain that was God:

The Mountain that was God(Tahoma) is located in the Pacific North West, or as we know it in the United States, Mount Rainer. This reading intersected with Professor Reddicks lecture and slide show of the wonderland through hike. It was tied to Lane's concept of the mask. The Mountain was masked as a prophet ofGod, but the Mountain took on many forms of expression. This Mountain was also a volcano with glaciers, both natural phenomenons holding their interpretive meaning to native tribes, hikers, and park officials. It is one of the most challenging hikes in the U.S> and is famous for the cause of many casualties.. this results in more folk tale that only strengthens the narrative of the masked Mountain. For lane Rainer represented his midway journey; it had significant meaning as the moment and place where he found himself. 

Mountains are often where humans experience the lt=iteral height of their existence, a place where the sky touches the earth with you in the middle and surrounded by all the grandness you get to feel small tiny even but still part of it all its a fleeting moment in time.

 Chapter 6:          At the beginning of this chapter Turner talks about the resurgence of Marian pilgrimages and images. Especially in the nineteenth century there was such an abundance of art focusing on Mary and her baby Jesus. I am currently taking an art history class as well and Mary and her child was a major major theme in art around those time periods, People were fascinated with her purity and obviously the holiness of her son. This was such an important event because it seemed to provide a link between humanity and the divinity of the holy God. Every other divine creature is invisible, not to be seen, heard or even have a proven  existence which obviously creates problems because it is impossible to know when or if one's prayer has been heard, making communication to the sacred very difficult. Israelites leaving Egypt   One of the great journeys that were told in the bible was the story of Israelites leaving Egypt. The reason for them leaving was because they were enslaved and Moses lead them out. Throughout the journey, God was in their presence as he parted the red sea and many other things.
