The Use of Psilocybin Mushrooms for Spiritual Journeys
When I think of spiritual journeys, I think of physical travel as an incredibly crucial aspect. For a psilocybin mushroom trip, however, there is no physical traveling involved, yet a spiritual journey can still take place.
When researching more into this, I discovered this article on a website called Psycom, which has been both a mental health resource & an informative website on all sorts of different topics pertaining to mental health since 1996. From them, I learned that psilocybin mushrooms "have been used for more than 10,000 years in various spiritual and medical rituals for their ability to alter consciousness and trigger mystical experiences" (Psycom). The fact alone that they have been used for tens of thousands of years shows the true spiritual importance of psilocybin mushrooms.
This article goes on to explain how some pathways in our brains are made to be much more efficient than others, simply due to the importance & usage that our brain finds in them. On a psilocybin mushroom trip, these underdeveloped pathways become opened & altered, allowing for new thoughts, ideas, & perspectives to form. Having your mind opened in ways such as those are what make a spiritual journey so impactful. Psilocybin mushrooms also bring about the potential for spiritual experiences to occur, as they cause people to think more deeply about the world & the meaning of life. Connecting to both God & nature is also a lot more rewarding & meaningful on a psilocybin mushroom trip, as it brings you to the present moment & allows for more profound feelings to develop. Reasons such as these explain why people have been using psilocybin mushrooms as a means to connect with themselves, others, God, & the world around them for so many years.
